CAMPFIRE BAN

CAMPFIRE BAN

Effective 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 26, 2018, and until further notice, small scale burning on private property is prohibited within the Village of Radium Hot Springs.

“Small scale burning”, means any burning less than 0.5 meters in diameter and 0.5 meters in height, or, in the case of grass burning, less than 25 square meters in area.

Prohibited activities within the Village of Radium Hot Springs also include the following:

  • Backyard campfires, outdoor stoves, portable campfire apparatuses;
  • The burning of any waste, slash or other materials;
  • The burning of stubble or grass fires of any size over any area;
  • The use of any fireworks,  firecrackers, sky lanterns, tiki torches, chimineas or burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description.

The prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimeters. Use of a campfire apparatus that does not meet these specifications is prohibited.

The previously enacted Open Burning prohibition remains in effect.

If you wish to report a campfire violation during the ban, please call 911.

This order is pursuant to Village of Radium Hot Springs “Open Burning Bylaw No. 297”.
