Hey Kids - Adventure Radium is going camping! If you are interested in an overnight campout at Crooks Meadows on August 20-21, call Jill at the Village Office - space is limited so don't delay!
Here in Radium we're surrounded by wilderness and we're occasionally visited by cougar. Walkers/hikers and outdoor enthusiasts please take extra caution when outdoors within the Village Boundaries.
Take precautions to prevent contact with a cougar:
Keep pets indoors or in secure kennels at night for safety.
Do not leave pet food or food scraps outside.
Do not leave garbage outside.
Closely supervise children when playing outdoors.
Light walkways.
If you come face to face with a cougar, here are some tips:
Stop, stand tall and don't run. Pick up small children immediately. Running and rapid movements may trigger an attack. A cougar's instinct is to chase.
Face the cougar, talk to it firmly and slowly back away. Do not take your eyes off the animal of turn your back. Do not crouch down or try to hide. Always leave the animal an escape route.
If the animal does not flee and shows signs of aggression, then shout, wave, throw rocks.
If the cougar attacks, fight back aggressively and try to stay on your feet.
Please contact Ministry of Environment Emergency Reporting 1-877-952-7277
or
