The Village of Radium Hot Springs plans a forest fuel reduction treatment in the Elk Park Ranch/Lynx Crescent area. This treatment will take place on municipal land and focuses on reducing wildfire risk in our community. The treatment area is 2.02 hectares in total — see map below.
This treatment could start as early as November 3rd, 2025.
The work is funded by a grant from the UBCM Community Resiliency Investment program.
The treatment will be done by a qualified forestry crew and follow a prescription developed by a registered professional forester. It will involve the careful removal of excess vegetation and debris to reduce potential wildfire intensity. This includes decreasing surface fuels (such as sticks and branches on the ground), ladder fuels (branches on trees), and selectively removing mostly smaller coniferous trees. Pile burning will be conducted in accordance with the BC Open Burning and Smoke Control Regulation and only under fair or better venting (smoke release) conditions. Please note that access to the treatment area will not be possible when the crew is working, and these closures will be determined on a day-to-day basis.
Reducing wildfire intensity in our community is part of a broader strategy to mitigate risk. It is also essential for homeowners to take steps to enhance the resilience of their properties.
If you have any questions about the planned fuel reduction treatment or how to improve your home’s resilience to wildfire, please feel free to contact Steve – Village of Radium FireSmart Coordinator – FireSmart@radiumhotsprings.ca.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to make our community more resilient to the threat of wildfires.
