The Sinclair Creek Canyon South Slopes Treatment Area made up of four separate polygons is currently being worked on. See the attached map for the polys (on map in pink) to be treated.
Contractors have started and the work is expected into the beginning of winter.
The most visible polygon, the south slope immediately south of Radium’s pump track area was the treated in October.
During treatment of other areas, smaller diameter trees will be removed and larger trees will be pruned and left behind. No slash burning will be done on site and most woody material will be taken away off site.
Funding for this treatment was provided by the Columbia Basin Trust — Community Resiliency Investment Program – Columbia Basin Wildfire Resiliency Initiative. Thank you Columbia Basin Trust!
The Sinclair Creek South Slope Area is Village-owned land which was identified for treatment in Radium’s 2024 Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan (CWRP) — linked here: https://radiumhotsprings.civicweb.net/filepro/documents/?expanded=4192&preview=10570
Ongoing fuel reduction on public lands identified for such treatment in the CWRP is intended to enhance the Village’s resiliency to wildfire.
