The Village of Radium hot Springs is reminding residents and visitors alike to maintain a safe distance to avoid stressful or dangerous interactions with wildlife. Doe deer often leave their fawns alone for several hours while foraging. The fawns are intentionally hidden to avoid predators. A fawn alone is not necessarily orphaned; do not approach it or touch it.
Safety Guidelines
- Keep Distance: Never approach fawns; the mother is likely nearby and may react defensively.
- Do Not Touch or Feed: Avoid handling or interfering with wildlife. Fawns that appear alone are often not abandoned.
- Respect Wildlife Habitat: Stay on trails or public pathways
- Keep Pets Leashed: Prevent distressing or disturbing the deer and fawns.
- Educate Others: Inform children and visitors about the importance of keeping a respectful distance from wildlife.
