2026 General Local Election

The next general local general will be held on October 17th, 2026, with an advanced poll held on October 7th, 2026.

Residents of Radium Hot Springs will be heading to the polls to elect:

  • One mayor; and
  • Four councillors

General local elections are administered by Village staff, and voting takes place from 8:00am – 8:00pm (MT) at the Village Office Council Chambers.

Pre-Candidate “Eye-Opener” Session

Village staff will be hosting a Pre-Candidate ‘eye-opener’ session on August 17th (time TBD) at the Radium Hot Springs Centre.  If you are considering running for council, this session will provide you with information on what being a councillor entails.  Stay tuned to this page as more information becomes available.

Voter Information

Please note: If a property is owned in whole or in part by a corporation, you are ineligible to register as a non-resident property elector with regard to that property. There is no corporate vote in British Columbia.

Resident Electors

For residents of Radium, you are eligible to vote if you meet all of the following criteria on voting day:

  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older on election day;
  • have lived in B.C. for at least six months (prior to April 16, 2026);
  • be a resident of Radium at the time of voting; and
  • not be disqualified from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

To prove your identity and eligibility to register as a resident property elector, please bring with you:

  • Two pieces of personal identification (ID): at least one piece of ID must have your signature and one must have your address (acceptable forms of identification are listed below).

Non-Resident Property Electors

If you own property in Radium but live elsewhere in B.C., you might qualify as a non-resident property elector as long as you meet all of the following criteria:

  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older on election day;
  • have lived in B.C. for at least six months (prior to April 16, 2026);
  • have owned property, registered in your personal name, in Radium for at least 30 days; and
  • not be disqualified from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

To prove your identity and eligibility to register as a non-resident property elector, please bring with you:

ID’s that are acceptable:

  • *BC Driver’s License
  • BC ID card from Motor Vehicle Branch
  • ICBC Owner’s Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle License
  • *BC Care Card
  • Status Card
  • Metis membership cards
  • Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security Request for Continued Assistance Form SDES8
  • Social Insurance card
  • Citizenship card
  • Property tax notice
  • Credit card or debit card
  • Utility bill for electricity, water/sewer, telephone or cable services

*Please note that the combined BC Driver’s Licence and BC Care Card will be considered as ONE piece of ID.

Election officials have limited discretion to accept documents beyond what is listed.

The Village of Radium does not use a voters list. All voters must register at the time of voting.

Candidate Information

A person is qualified to be nominated for, elected to, and hold office on a local government if they meet the following criteria:

  • are a Canadian citizen; and
  • are 18 years of age or older on general voting day: Saturday, October 17, 2026; and
  • are a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately prior to filing nomination documents (prior to March 10, 2026); and
  • are not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding the office, or otherwise disqualified by law.

A person is specifically disqualified from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office on a local government, if they fall within any of the following categories:

  • are a Judge of the Provincial Court, Supreme Court or Court of Appeal; or
  • are an employee or salaried officer of the local government [unless a leave of absence is taken to run for office and agrees to resign if elected]; including if they are running as a regional district electoral area director when employed by a municipality which is a member of that regional district; or
  • are under sentence for an indictable offence and are in custody or in prison; or
  • have been found guilty of an election offence; or
  • are disqualified from candidacy under any law or enactment (i.e., failure to file a candidate disclosure statement in the previous election, not making an oath of office, etc.).

Nomination packages will be available for pickup at the Village Office as of August 4th.  The office is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday-Friday, excluding statutory holidays.   You can also request a nomination package by emailing the election officials below.

The statutory period for receiving nomination documents begins at 9:00am on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 and ends at 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Candidate nomination documents will be available for public inspection at the Village office in Radium Hot Springs for the duration of the inspection period.

Submitting Nomination Documents

Nomination documents may be submitted by hand, by mail or other delivery service, by fax or by email.  Contact information is shown below.

Candidates must make a solemn declaration on the documents. Nominations and declarations are most commonly taken by the Chief Election Officer or designate at the time nomination papers are filed.  However, the declaration can also be taken by a lawyer, notary, or commissioner for taking affidavits in BC, at the candidate’s cost.

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

  • Mayor – $10,797.83
  • Councillor – $5,398.92

Candidates are required to submit their financial disclosure documents to Elections BC for verification and publication.
