What’s happening?

As early as June 1, 2026, three separate highway projects will begin on Highway 93S in Kootenay National Park.

What you need to know:

Sinclair Canyon Bridge Rehabilitation: This project will address critical infrastructure upgrades. This also include repairs to the Sinclair Creek Rock Tunnel near the Radium Hot Springs pools and retaining wall rehabilitation at the southwest end of Sinclair Canyon.
Motorists should expect single lane alternating traffic and delays up to 45 minutes during peak traffic periods. This work will be underway from June – October 2026.

Kootenay Crossing bridge rehabilitation (km 60): This work will address critical infrastructure repairs.
Motorists should expect speed reductions. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained. This work will take place between June – October 2026.

Culvert repairs (km 27.5): This work will address infrastructure repairs.
Motorists should expect speed reductions and single lane alternating traffic. This work will start as early as June 1 and take approximately 2-3 weeks to complete.

Additional information for Sinclair Canyon work:

There are no planned disruptions to access for the Radium Hot Springs pools or Redstreak Campground during construction. The Sinclair Canyon Trail/Juniper Trail will also remain open.

The following pedestrian trails and pullouts will close during construction:

• Pedestrian sidewalks on both sides of Highway 93S through Sinclair Canyon.
• Bunkhouse area near old West Gate
• Southbound parking area immediately north of Sinclair Canyon.
• Northbound parking area approximately 150m north of Sinclair Canyon.
• Be prepared for traffic delays, budget extra time and be patient during this construction period. Check DriveBC for current conditions.

Parks Canada will make every effort to minimize disruptions and maintain safe access through the area.
