The Village of Radium Hot Springs will soon begin chemical treatments of invasive plants within its boundaries and on land it owns.
Treatments will start as soon as August 4, 2026, will be done by a qualified contractor, and are based on the Village’s Invasive Plant Management Plan developed last year. Treatment is expected to take up to two weeks, but could be completed earlier dependent on the weather.
Efforts will be made to avoid busy areas at busy times and the contractor will place signage at key points.
This is the first known coordinated treatment of invasive plants in the Village and it should help reduce the Village’s invasive plant infestation.
The Invasive Species Council of British Columbia (ISCBC) defines an invasive plant as one that does not occur naturally in BC and has the potential to cause environmental, cultural, or economic harm. Invasive plants can establish quickly and easily, outcompeting native vegetation and agricultural crops causing widespread negative environmental, social, and economic impacts.
