As spring approaches, now is a good time to start thinking about what FireSmart actions you will take on your home and property this spring. Keep in mind that up to 90% of home ignitions are caused by embers that can be carried more than two kilometres ahead of the main fire. That makes all of Radium susceptible to ignition from embers!
Things you can do now:
- Start developing a plan for what actions you would like to take this spring on your home and property when you do your yard clean-up.
- Talk to your neighbours about working together to help protect each other. Consider joining the FireSmart Neighbourhood recognition program (which will become the Local FireSmart Collective program in 2026) to support Neighbourhood initiatives. - Book a free FireSmart home or business assessment and have Radium’s Wildfire Mitigation Specialist complete a FireSmart Assessment free of charge for you. You can book now, and Steve will contact you to set up a time. FireSmart Assessments are available from early April until late October. Booking now will get you in earlier for your assessment.
