Water Treatment Plant
The Village of Radium Hot Springs’ water treatment plant treats glacier water drawn from the Forster Creek approximately 15 KM west of the community. Originally constructed in 2000 and upgraded significantly since that time, the modern water plant is staffed with qualified water utility operators and monitored continuously through a SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). Treated water meets all provincial drinking water quality standards.
Sewer Treatment Plant
The Village of Radium Hot Springs's sewer treatment plant is unique, using a moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) which supports the growth of good bacteria needed for the breakdown of sewage. The plant uses aeration blowers to inject air into the sewage lagoons, supporting the bacteriological life in the lagoons. Effluent from the plant meets the standards of the BC Ministry of Environment.
Water Conservation
Village water use roughly doubles during the summer months, and much of it is wasted. Using water wisely reduces demand on the Village's treatment and distribution system and helps ensure water is available for drinking and firefighting in time of need. Water conservation measures are in effect annually.
For information on watering days, watering hours, and the Water Conservation Bylaw, visit the Watering Restrictions page or review Bylaw 505, 2024 Water Use and Conservation on the Village Document Centre.
Winter Road Maintenance
The Village operates a snow and ice control program throughout the snow season (mid-October to mid-March), covering Village roads, including arterial and residential routes. For full details on snow removal, resident responsibilities, and fire hydrant clearing, visit the Snow and Ice Removal page.
