Housing Radium Hot Springs
Availability and affordability of adequate housing are priorities for the Village of Radium Hot Springs. This page brings together information about housing initiatives, available resources, and ways to support housing development in our community.
The Village works as a facilitator for housing development, through development of enabling housing policy, partnering with housing providers, and senior levels of government to support diverse housing options.
While the Village doesn’t manage rental housing, we focused on removing barriers, providing incentives, and working with organizations like the Columbia Valley Housing Society to increase housing availability for residents and workers.
Key Priorities:
- Supporting affordable and workforce adequate housing development
- Streamlining development approvals for affordable housing projects
- Partnering with the Columbia Valley Housing Society and other providers
- Using federal and provincial funding to support housing initiatives
- Planning for diverse housing types through our Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw
The Village has taken significant steps to support housing development:
- August 2023 – Purchased three-unit long-term rental property on McKay Street (now managed by Columbia Valley Housing Society) – Radium’s first dedicated long-term rental property
- November 2023 – Adopted Long-Term Rental Housing Revitalization Tax Exemption Program, offering up to 10 years of municipal tax breaks for new rental housing
- March 2024 – Signed Partnership Memorandum of Understanding with Columbia Valley Housing Society
- June 2024 – Updated Zoning Bylaw to align with provincial small-scale multi-unit housing regulations
- September 2024 – Approved for Housing Accelerator Fund grant valued up to ($613,000 over four years)
- 2024 to present – Major water infrastructure improvements underway (design), and planned 2026 construction of second settling pond and second water intake (approximately $5.5 million investment to support community resiliency, the Village’s water utility, and residential development)
- May 2025 – Acquired property on Ridge Road in Radium Hot Springs (4+ acres) for parkland, road improvements, and future affordable housing development
- Winter 2026 – New Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw adopted (pending) with updated housing policies, including increased density allowances and regulation of short-term rentals
Moving forward, the Village will continue to work with partners, invest in infrastructure, and pursue funding opportunities to support development of adequate housing in Radium Hot Springs.
